Welcome to Reception
In Reception class we are always busy learning in both our indoor and outdoor environments. We follow a play based curriculum with a balance of child initiated and adult led activities where children are encouraged to follow thier own interests and become independent and resourceful leaners.
As the children learn through play and a topic based curriculum, there is a focus on the final developmental stages of learning within the Foundation Stage called the Early Learning Goals. Each of the 17 areas of learning have an end Early Learning Goal and it is these which children are assessed against at the end of the academic year.
Children in the Reception class are developing their independence, perseverance and problem solving skills within their learning. These skills are also assessed and are called the Characteristics of Effective Learning. These learning behaviours play a vital role in children becoming confident learners and reaching their full potential.
Reading the Enormous Turnip led our interests to make our own vegetable soup.

There was a surprise in our Reception class this morning. A gingerbread man jumped out of the oven and ran into the garden!

The children went on a gingerbread man hunt to find the 10 missing gingerbread men.
